Final Findings

My role in this project was team leader and programmer, the first part I did was getting the passwords part to work which consisted of the login page, two security questions and a master password at which point the user would be prompted to contact their trustee person. I worked with Alan and he adapted the password code and used it as part of the project he cut it down to a login and master password because when we user tested it most if the students found having 4 password was too long and frustrating. He also made a master reset so the user could reset their user name and password if they wished while their information still was saved in the app. I looked up tutorials online mainly republicofcode.com.

I'd help from our lecture Val too as see did a password class in flash with us which came in very useful. The other part of the programming was the character personalistion, where the user could pick different colours of the clothes for their characters, this was the most challenging part for me as coding is not my background so i'd to look up as many tutorials as I could, once I got the code working for both characters I needed a way to save the selected colours the user chose, Val had been extremely helpful as she helped me out a lot to achieve this.

The only problem with that is after I you selected the characters the app relooded and they appeared on every page. Time was a major issue for me and as a result I was unable to complete the girl character. When Christine, Stephanie and Alan had finished their jobs I put the app together and planned to put it on the android phone, However it did not turn out as expected i could get it on the phone but i was unable to click anything. Also on the day of the presentation we ran into issues with the code as it didn't work errors get coming up for us but we got it sorted.

As team leader as well i arranged our visits to Dorus with Tony, and did my best with keeping everything going smoothly. Overall it had been a great experience for me and my group we all loved working with student from Dorus and working together to do our project well. In future what i would change is having more of a selection in terms of what clothes you can change or add to the characters and maybe allow the user to name their character, also time keeping i've realised how important it is and not to take it for granted and to try and see the issues before they happen

Final Tutorial

I ended up doing the tutorial using after effects as the application was not properly finished so Camtasia would of been hard to follow for the user.

I have included the final tutorial in the dvd which the lecturers have.

I made interfaces of the application by taking screen shots of the application step by step i then imported them into after effects in the correct order and i added in the text and audio which i had recorded. I then took the tutorial down to Doras and tested it out on the clients to see if it was effective.

The feedback which i received is all recorded on the zoom recorder and i have also included it in the dvd which the lecturers have.

In the future i would like to make another tutorial but using Camptasia (the original software which i wanted to use but couldn't as the app was not finished.)

Personalisation of Characters

Apart from being team leader of my group my main responsibility was to programming the app so that the user/client could change the colour of the clothes of the buddy they selected in this example his the male buddy The top image is the page that appears that allows user to selct what colour they would like to change their characters hair, in this case black they roll the mouse over the black and his hair changes colour

Passwords

This is the beginning of the password protection starting with the login page, the design is similar as to what we had in the final draft of our app

If then these two security questions are entered incorrectly, the user is asked for a master password in which they cant remember they'll be prompted to ring their trustee person

Final Usability Results

On the 17th i received the application the way in which it was given, i then went down to the Doras center with Lauren to test it out on the users.

We began by setting up the app on the computer as it was not finished on the phone of yet, then tony asked us who we would want to test it on and i stated that anyone someone who is out spoken and doesnt mind speaking there mind but in general any one of the students down at doras.

The way in which i tested the app was by using the couching method to begin with i told the user that they were to be honest and ask questions when they wanted to, Lauren pretended to be there trusted person for this user testing i did want it to be Tony but he was busy doing the fetac work with the students.

Firstly i showed the client the tutorial i did this to see if the tutorial did the job which it is meant to, which is to give a step by step guide on how to set up the app and use it.

Once the tutorial was finished i then just let them go through the app with Lauren and i recorded them using an audio recording device which i rented off Leo.

Once they were completed doing the tutorial i then asked them a series of questions, the reason which i asked the questions instead of only letting them ask questions is because of the way in which they react to asking questions they just want to have an easy life and dont draw it upon themselves to ask things so i wanted them to feel like they could say what they want whether it was bad or good.

These were the questions which i asked:

Q1 - WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE APP?

Q2 - ON A SCALE OF 1 - 5, 1 BEING VERY EASY, 2 EASY, 3 OK, 4 HARD AND 5 VERY HARD WHICH WOULD YOU RATE OUR APP? AND WHY?

Q3 - IF THIS WAS YOUR APP IS THERE ANY CHANGES YOU WOULD MAKE? AND WHY?

Q4 - WOULD YOU USE THIS APP IF IT WAS ON YOUR PHONE?

Q5 - DID THE TUTORIAL YOU WATCHED BEFOREHAND HELP YOU AND MAKE IT EASIER TO SET UP THE APP?

The results which i got are all audio recorded and what i found out is that the users find the app easy to use as all of them said it was a scale 1 of hardness. The passwords were not complete so i reported back to lauren and alan and told them that the user testing for the passwords could not be done as they were not working in the app. The character design and interface which Christine had done was a big positive in the testing as the users loved the design and it attracted them to the app.

I found the final user testing hard to do efficiently because th actual app was not complete but what was given to me had very positive feedback, but i do feel like if the app was user tested on the phone it would of been more effective.
