Usability Test Plan

1. What we are testing

The usability testing will investigate the functionality of the sky seeker website and android application. I will use the results of the test to refine the functionality of our product. The test will also allow me to determine the problem areas on the site that I can address in the tutorial video.

2. Materials

  • Set-up sheet,
  • Task lists,
  • Observation sheets,
  • Questionnaires

3. Users

I would like to get a wide range of users with varying computer experience, intellectual abilities and age to participate in the usability testing. To determine this information I will provide a demographic questionnaire the day beforehand to be filled out by any interested parties. I will then choose my participants based on this information. I will also ask Tony and Michael for advice on whom to choose.

4. Location

The testing will be performed at Doras and is planned to go ahead for the 4th May 2011 from 11.15 am onwards.

5. Equipment

  • Questionairre
  • Pen and Paper
  • Android phone with the app on it
  • Mock Tutorial

Usability Test Procedures

1. Set-up Sheet

  • Bring tutorial and show it to them and there trusted person (for this case it is tony) before starting up the app.
  • Once finished watching the tutorial give them the phone and remind them that anything they want to say it allowed and to also ask for help if they need it.
  • Once the app setting up is complete get the user to login in on there own and see how they get on.
  • Do a question and answer time and record all of this, then ask the users questions which I have prepared and also record the audio and make notes.

This is only for me as the tester. It is to ensure that I have everything I need to perform the test successfully.

Checklist

  • Android Phone
  • Task lists
  • Exit Questionnaires

2. Intoduction

I will give a brief introduction to the participants about the product and explain the importance of user testing to the them. I will then explain the procedure of the test and highlight that they are not the ones being tested, rather the ones doing the testing.

3. Task List

I will read out the following task list and ask the participants to complete each task.

1. You have learned from a friend about a new application that allows you to know important information in life situations like needing to know your pin number at the bank or pps number at the hospital. Go to www.skyseeker.net and download this application.

2. You can also watch a tutorial video on this to show you step by step how to set up your application.

3. Now enter in the information that is required and then click save.

4. Now you can chose which hero character you would like girl/boy and you can personalize the character as well then click save again.

5. Now you must chose 2 passwords 1st a regular password that only you know and then a master password, which you are your trusted person, knows then click save.

6. Now all of your information is stored in the application and to get into to your information each time you will have to enter in your password and login name.

I will instruct and observe users performing fairly simple, common tasks. I will verbally lead the users through the series of questions, encouraging them to think out load and respond to what they are looking at, and ask questions about their thought processes and decisions as they work, without being intrusive or leading. I will also take in-depth notes.

4. Qualitative Data

Users will be encouraged to talk aloud during the testing. They should discuss their problem-solving strategies, give their points-of-view, and make whatever comments they like throughout the session. I will be taking notes throughout the session in order to collect this qualitative data and hopefully all my questions will get answered.

5. Questionnaire

After the test each participant will be given a short questionnaire. This will be to gain further information about how the user found the website and application. I will go through the questionnaire with them one by one.

6. Test Results

Immediately following the usability test, notes taken during the testing will be reworked and elaborated on. These, combined with the quantitative results obtained during the testing, users written comments, and results from the post-testing questionnaire will be used to prepare the final report.
